High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE)
One of our top goals at South Bronx Job Corps is to ensure that every qualified student obtains his or her HSE diploma prior to leaving the center. Students who don't already have a high school diploma upon their arrival at South Bronx and are between the ages of 17 1/5 through 21 years old will be enrolled automatically in our HSE program offered with the assistance of the Department of Education (DOE). Students over the age of 21 years old will be offered our High School Diploma on-line (Penn Foster) program.
Tutoring programs are available where students are tutored in applied academics, math, reading, social studies, and writing by instructors or by fellow students (Peer Student Tutors). Students interested in getting into a tutoring program may contact their instructors or the Academic Manager.
Advanced Career Training
The Advanced Career Training (ACT) program gives students the opportunity to receive advanced education/technical training. Students in the ACT program may attend one of the participating City University of New York (CUNY) schools.
ACT students may also participate in other Job Corps center programs such as A+/Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification at Edison Job Corps [HYPERLINK TO http://edison.jobcorps.gov/home.aspx] in New Jersey, Advanced Computer Technology at Shriver Job Corps [HYPERLINK TO http://edison.jobcorps.gov/home.aspx] in Massachusetts, and Advanced Pastry Training at New Haven Job Corps [HYPERLINK TO http://newhaven.jobcorps.gov/home.aspx] in Connecticut.
To qualify for this program, a student must have a high school diploma or GED (from our center or another educational facility) and have successfully completed a vocational trade at Job Corps.
Benefits of the ACT Program include:
- academic advisement, mentoring, and tutoring
- paid tuition, fees, books, and supplies

This program is offered through partnerships with the ABC Training Center, Bronx Community College, Bronx Educational Opportunity Center, and CUNY Colleges.
